Information announced at the groundbreaking ceremony, phase 1 of building a warehouse cluster and multi-purpose industrial irradiation line with an expected capacity of 50,000 tons/year, on an area of nearly 2 hectares at No. 2 Phu Thang area, ward Tan Phu, Cai Rang district, Can Tho city. Irradiation technology that will be introduced includes the use of Cobalt-60 sources and accelerators, which are two popular technologies in the world. Versatile industrial irradiation line (VINAGA1) using Cobalt-60 source; designed and manufactured by the Center for Research and Development of Radiation Technology (VINAGAMMA) of the Vietnam Atomic Institute (VINATOM) according to the standards of industrial irradiators with satisfactory safety features meet the regulations on industrial irradiators of the International Atomic Energy Agency - IAEA and of Vietnam.
Technically, VINAGA1 is a type of water tank for storing source - container - transported by rail vehicle, belonging to the category "Category IV- A Panoramic - wet source storage irradiator" according to the classification of the IAEA. The cargo box mechanical system containing 52 barrels with dimensions (50 X 70 X 90) cm can operate in three main irradiation modes: continuous irradiation, batch irradiation and stop irradiation. The irradiator has 03 source plates with 04 modules/source plate and each source plate can load 40 source bars (11 x 451) mm type CS188 or GIK-A6.
The radioactive source when not in use will be stored in a water tank containing the source with a depth of 6 m and pulled up to the center of the cargo island in case of irradiation. The concrete wall is designed with a thickness to ensure that the gamma radiation background outside the projection chamber is not higher than the normal radiation background to meet Vietnam's regulations on radiation safety.
The cluster of warehouses and irradiation lines at Can Tho port (Can Tho city) is expected to be put into operation from the beginning of 2023, which is expected to contribute to removing bottlenecks for the economic development of the Mekong Delta, which is the Logistics system connects production to consumption, along with irradiation and warehousing services.
The cluster of warehouses and irradiation lines of Can Tho Irradiation Joint Stock Company is expected to bring more convenient access opportunities and reduce transportation costs for businesses in the South and Mekong Delta to 28,8000 tons/year. The construction project puts the warehouse cluster and irradiation line into operation will strongly promote the export of goods through Can Tho Port.
When the project comes into operation, it will promote the application of atomic energy, bring nuclear science and technology to life, especially promote sustainable agricultural development, contributing to the socio-economic development of Can Tho city. |
