Ca Mau: Serious landslides threaten people's lives
Dozens of households in Dat Bien hamlet, Phong Dien commune, Tran Van Thoi district, Ca Mau province lived in anxiety situation because they daily face with the situation of rising sea levels and severe landslides at Vam Rach Mieu - a small estuary branch opens the sea west.

Looking at his ramshackle house can be "swallowed up by sea waves" Nguyen Van Dua said that the previous years never happened so serious landslides.

From the beginning of the year to this day, areas usually occur on huge waves, strong winds and raising sea level that cause seashore landslides up to 4-5m. Many houses of people had been immerged in the sea. Property and lives of nearly 50 people are always endangered.

In the past, 32 households explored the protective forest land outside the dike to live and catch inshore fishery. Currently, only 14 households hold in protection forests, most households have difficult circumstances, and haven’t productive land.

This situation, commune People's Committees directed Dat Bien hamlet to check,  make a list of households who got relocation needs. Initially, 21 households in Dat Bien hamlet voluntarily requested local authorities to consider their relocation to new places.

However, the commune also must continue to submit to the district and when approved, the local government will implement. The major difficulty in moving people is that the government plans land fund and investment infrastructure to serve people’s necessary needs, but everything looks forward to the decision of the district.
