Ho Chi Minh City: Export of ornamental fish increased sharply
Ornamental fishes are one of the key products of the urban agriculture. This is considered an industry with high potential for development, using less land area and bringing high economic value.

According to the statistics of Ho Chi Minh City Department of Fisheries, ornamental fish production and export increased steadily over the years. As of 2018, the total area of ornamental fish farming across Ho Chi Minh City is about 88.9 hectares with more than 292 farms and households. Production of ornamental fish reached over 20.31 million VND, turnover reached 22.39 million VND.

Currently in the city, there are more than 20 organizations and individuals exporting ornamental fish through Ho Chi Minh City border gate. In particular, the city's ornamental fish has exported to 48 countries, of which the European market accounts for 55%, the rest are Asian, American and South African markets.

Production and quality of ornamental fishes have been increasingly enhanced thanks to the great contributions of the City People's Committee. The timely implementation of solutions supported the construction, introduction, promotion of ornamental fish products and brands to develop the domestic market and boost exports. Every year, the city organizes ornamental fish exhibition programs to create opportunities for ornamental fish producers and traders to exchange and promote their products and expand their consumption markets. This is also a great opportunity for businesses, scientists, biotechnology experts to meet, exchange and support biotechnology products for the care and rearing of aquarium fishes.
