Vietnam: Promote international cooperation in the energy sector
Currently, the Government of Vietnam is promoting international cooperation in the energy sector, strengthening coordination and dialogue mechanisms, and constantly improving policy mechanisms to improve capacity, efficiency, sustainability and suitable for the national energy industry.

Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Dang Hoang An and representatives of relevant departments and agencies participated in the online dialogue on energy transition in Berlin in 2021

The world is facing many great challenges due to the impact of climate change on sustainable development, threatening the earth's survival. Countries around the world have been placing themselves in the context of climate change to choose a sustainable, low-carbon development path with a long-term vision to 2050. Energy plays a vital role in economic development and social security for all countries, including Vietnam.

At the session with the topic "Smart market design for the global energy transition" on March 16, Deputy Minister Dang Hoang An said he was very pleased to attend this Energy Transition Dialogue and together discuss, share and propose policies and priorities to promote effective cooperation to support developing countries, including Vietnam, to gradually reduce their dependence on fossil fuels and gradually increasing the proportion of renewable energy in the national energy supply structure.

Along with ensuring the socio-economic growth goals, the Government of Vietnam is determined and is giving high priority to efforts to develop the energy sector towards sustainable development with the aim of maintaining national energy security and greenhouse gas emissions reduction.

"Putting into operation the electricity market and the competitive energy market are the most effective tools to establish the foundation for the energy transition" - Deputy Minister Dang Hoang An emphasized.

Currently, in the electricity sector, Vietnam has issued a roadmap for the development of the electricity market in three levels (Decision No.63/2013 / QD-TTg dated November 8, 2013) in order to liberalize the generation of power in turn, electricity wholesale and retail electricity. Up to now, a competitive electricity generation and wholesale market has been formed, power plants have been able to offer competitive prices in a transparent and fair environment, a process of restructuring the power sector (separating natural monopolies and competition factors) is being carried out towards the formation of a competitive electricity retail market, providing customers with the choice of power suppliers.
