In 2017: Vietnam will conduct the first human head transplantation case
On January 12, in Hanoi, National Coordinating Centre for Human Organ Transplantation held a community meeting about the viscera donation and transplantation.

According to Prof., Dr. Trinh Hong Son,  after the head transplantation case was conducted and published successfully, Vietnam will ready invite experts go to Vietnam to perform this technique. The most important thing in human head transplantation is to prepare donors and recipients.

For the process of preparing human head transplantation, Prof., Dr.Trinh Hong Son said the first human head transplantation surgery case is expected to have participation of 150 doctors and nurses. They are trained for two years, with maturity actions and coordination. Surgery time is expected 2 days.

Surgical procedures include: The head is make cool, cut the head of the donor with diamond blades, head is protected by continuously pumping oxygen to the brain through silicone tubes; cut head of recipient on the brain stem, the heart still beat and culture body. At the beginning of the plantation, the team connect the spinal cord, blood vessels, muscles, skin and etc. Then tracking and caring post-transplantion. The above preparation for surgery is being urgently prepared.

Currently, the head transplantation technique has tested on 1,000 rats, after the head transplantation mice could breathe, see and drink but they only live in a few minutes.

It is known that the most difficult organ transplantation techniques of the world, Vietnam carried out but the biggest difficulty of this technology is still scarcity of donor organs.

According to data from the director of the National Coordination Center of Human Organ Transplantation, accounting to December 31, 2015, there were 2,348 registered people for organ donation at the Center. The number of people registered to donate organ in the whole country are 3542 people, in which, men accounted for 57.9%,  around 1,359 donors; the rest rates are women.

Accounting to September 30, 2015, Vietnam carried out 1,116 kidney transplantation cases, 48 liver transplantation cases and 13 heart transplantation cases, 1 kidney - marrow transplantation case and 1 heart- lung transplantation case.
