Message from Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc at the Online Summit on Climate Change Adaptation
On January 25, at the opening session of the Online Summit on Climate Change Adaptation, the discussion of urgent solutions to climate change is increasingly influencing all countries. In countries around the world, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc had an important message to the Conference. Please introduce the full text of the message.

The earth of our common home is being strongly shaken due to the serious impacts of climate change, the development and survival of many peoples and nations are threatened. This challenge seems to be exacerbated by the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic which has enormous implications and scatters resources devoted to climate change response efforts.

Today's conference is of very important significance as we join hands to unite to open a new decade for our beloved Earth House, with strong determination, new initiatives, and enhanced adaptive action  to climate change, making an important contribution to promoting the implementation of the SDG-2030 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations.

According to the World Bank (WB), Vietnam is one of the countries most affected by climate change. Coastal areas and deltas, especially the Mekong River Delta in southern Vietnam, are often severely affected by sea level rise, saline intrusion and climate related hazards, such as storms and of tropical low pressures, floods, drought. The mountainous area is also frequently hit by floods and landslides with increasing frequency.

To adapt to climate change, in addition to actively restructuring the economy towards low carbon and reducing greenhouse gas emissions, Vietnam is committed to strengthening resilience and enhancing adaptive capacity of communities, economic sectors and ecosystems; mitigating natural disaster risks and damages caused by climate change; integrating climate change adaptation into the national planning and strategy system; to invest in human resource development, increase scientific research, develop and apply modern technologies.

The Government of Vietnam considers people-based, cooperation and action to be the foundation for the successful implementation of climate change adaptation programs and activities.
