Can Tho Information and Documentation Center
I. The history of forming and development:
- Can Tho Information and Documentation Center was previously named Center of Training and Cultivating scientific and technological knowledge. It was established in the middle of 1980s under the direct control of The Science and Engineering Technology Committee, Hau Giang province (Hau Giang province before). In 1994, it was renamed to be the Center of Training, Consultant and Technology Transfer in accordance to Decision No 660/QĐ.UBT.94 dated on April 1st, 1994 of People’s Committee of Can Tho province. It was directly controlled under Can Tho Science, Technology and Environment Department. In 2001, it was changed its name to become Can Tho Science and Engineering Technology Center based on Decision No. 1445/QĐ-CT.UB dated on June 1st, 2001 of the president of People’s Committee of Can Tho province.
- From 2002 until now, the Center is renamed to be Can Tho Information and Documentation Center directly controlled by Can Tho Science and Technology Department in accordance to Decision No 2089/QĐ-UBND dated on September 19th, 2006 of the president of People’s Committee of Can Tho city.
II. Academic functions – Tasks:

Constructing, managing and using effectively the resources of scientific and technological document information in Can Tho city.
2.Tasks:
Collecting and processing the data, events, news, academic knowledge in order to create resources of science and technology information; Managing, storing these resources; Providing the scientific and technological products and services based on the service contracts of every organization, individual;
Scientific and technological statistics, providing the background information in order to construct the forecast basis on the development of science and technology, serving for master-planned orientations and policies to control science and technology work of communist party organizations, state agencies;
Providing and exchanging the scientific and technological information freely in pursuit of the state guidelines and policies with the purpose to propagandize, popularize knowledge or cooperate to develop science and technology;
Constructing and carrying-out every program, action plan on the science and technology information; guiding to check skillful, professional knowledge of the science and technology issues;
Instructing, training and cultivating professional knowledge on scientific and technological issues;
Constructing the general database, thesis and website on science and technology; Applying and developing the advanced technology in the fields of scientific information and technique;
Making the scientific research, developing technology in order to serve activities of scientific information and technique;
Organizing librarian activities, conferences, seminars, exhibitions, fairs, markets about scientific technology and equipment;
Holding the international collaboration on science and technology information; other activities concerned in accordance to the regulations of practical law.
Carrying-out services, consulting in the field of science, technology, environment protection, intellectual property, energy safe conservation in accordance to the regulations of practical law.
