Climate Change
Promoting cooperation with development partners, international financial institutions, especially cooperation in sustainable green financial development is one of the priorities of the Government to implement Vietnam's commitments at the 26th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP26).
Vietnam is one of the most vulnerable countries in the world to climate change. Climate vulnerability affects more than 74% of Vietnam's population. Among them are families who have lost their homes due to storms and floods, children whose health deteriorates in the early stages of life due to exposure to air pollution, who cannot avoid being impacted by environmental hazards.
Vietnam has expressed its determination to soon adopt Power Plan VIII (PDP-8) with a national electricity development roadmap in line with the goal of net zero emissions by 2050.
Researcher Tran Duc Dung (Center for Water Management & Climate Change, Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City) and domestic and international colleagues have carried out empirical research in Tra Vinh province and Can Tho city in July and August 2020 with Sponsored by the Southwest Program, the Ministry of Education and Training, Ho Chi Minh City National University, the National Science Foundation of Singapore.
This model ensures income for smart, climate-adaptive and environmentally friendly farming communities.
On September 24, in Can Tho, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the World Bank held a workshop on "Integrated climate resilience and sustainable development in the Mekong Delta."
The British Council has launched the FameLab Climate Change Communication Competition to find top climate science communicators ahead of the 26th Climate Change Summit (COP26).
The draft by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment encourages new investment projects to apply technologies, production processes, and service provision with low greenhouse gas emissions.
On February 23, 2021, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc attended and spoke at the online high-level open discussion session of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) with the topic "Resolving threats to international peace and security related to climate.”
The Ministry of Industry and Trade has just cooperated with the World Bank to hold a consultation workshop "Developing action plans to respond to climate change of the industry and trade period of 2021 - 2030" on April 26, in Quang Ninh province.
