The Prime Minister will preside a conference on sustainable development of Mekong Delta to adapt to climate change
In the afternoon of September 5, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc had a meeting with several ministries and sectors to organize a conference on changing the sustainable development model of Mekong Delta to adapt to climate change.


It is considered "Dien Hong Conference" for the Mekong Delta to mobilize support from the Government and Mekong Delta localities, identify large-scale strategic transformation solutions for sustainable development of Mekong Delta with a vision to 2100.

The conference will be presided by the Prime Minister. It is expected for two days, on September 26-27 in Can Tho.

Besides the plenary session, the conference will have thematic discussions, such as an overview of challenges, opportunities and solutions to transform the development model for the Mekong Delta; integrated planning, infrastructure development and regional coordination mechanisms; sustainable livelihood conversion, irrigation infrastructure, natural disaster prevention, land subsidence, landslide erosion; development needs and resources.

The conference is expected to have about 500 participants, in which it will invite national and international experts, representatives of organizations, development partners and businesses paying attention to development of Mekong Delta.

The Prime Minister assigned Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment to preside the Government Office, Can Tho People's Committee and relevant ministries and agencies having specific projects and scenarios to make the conference with the best results.
