Nearly 100 representative delegates of central agencies, leaders of 8 provinces, cities (Da Nang, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa, Binh Thuan, Ninh Thuan) attended the workshop.
According to climate change scenarios, to 2020, in Quang Nam province, flooding situation occurs mainly in coastal areas due to the low terrain with a total flooded area is over 306 km2. In which, most flooded locality is Hoi An city with more than 27% of the area; the next Dien Ban district (26%), Duy Xuyen (nearly 16%), Nui Thanh (15%) and etc. The floods and storms occur frequently, cause severe damage to livelihoods.
Funded by Denmark Government to implement a number of programs, climate change adaptation projects period 2010-2015, up to now, Quang Nam is building 10 models of climate change adaptation in vulnerable areas caused by natural disasters.
Specifically, the province has built embankment landslide control works, the estuary; general-purpose houses combined storm shelter with clinics, to ensure a safe place for more than 1,000 people in Thang Binh district, Dien Ban; model of coastal mangrove plantation in Nui Thanh district; avoiding flood roads in Dai Loc district with a total budget is over 61 billion VND. It is expected that approximately 280,000 people will benefit from this work.
Reportedly, Quang Nam and Ben Tre are two localities in Vietnam funded by Danish government to construct a number of models adapt to climate change. According to the plan, period from 2010-2015, Denmark will support the deployment of building 20 climate change adaptation project in Quang Nam with a total capital of nearly 151 billion VND. |
