The delegation of the Ministry of Science and Technology worked with the World Intellectual Property Organization
Assigned by the Minister, the delegation of the Ministry of Science and Technology, led by Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Giang, worked with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Geneva, Switzerland to exchange experiences in building a local innovation index as well as other initiatives and cooperation programs on innovation and intellectual property.


The mission of the delegation of the Ministry of Science and Technology is to concretize the results of the official visits of President Nguyen Xuan Phuc in Switzerland in November 2021 and the Minister of Science and Technology in France and Switzerland, July 2022.

Participating in the mission, there were the Directors of the Departments of Science and Technology of some localities, including: Hanoi, Bac Giang, Hai Phong, Son La, Thua Thien Hue, Can Tho and the Permanent Delegation of Vietnam in Giorgio.

At working sessions with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), in Geneva, Switzerland, the two sides exchanged and shared about the situation of the ranking of the global innovation index. (GII) over the past time, in which WIPO experts highly appreciate that Vietnam, along with India, Turkey, China, Indonesia are bright spots in the ranking and predict that it can continue to improve its position ranking in the near future. The 2022 GII ranking report is expected to be published by WIPO on September 29, 2022.

In addition, WIPO experts also shared their experiences on building a set of local innovation indicators (PII). According to WIPO experts, there are now a number of countries that have successfully implemented PII, such as Colombia, India or China, and highly appreciate Vietnam's determination in building this index to create a basis for building policies to promote innovation activities at the local level, thereby effectively supporting domestic and foreign investors in making investment decisions in localities of Vietnam. The two sides agreed to continue to closely coordinate to implement this content, specifically after Vietnam completes the draft PII index, WIPO will study, evaluate and make recommendations so that Vietnam can complete this set of indicators.

Within the framework of the mission, the delegation attended the celebration of the 77th National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the 45th anniversary of Vietnam's participation in the United Nations by the Permanent Delegation to Geneva. Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Giang delivered a speech at the ceremony, which emphasized that Vietnam is accelerating the process of economic model transformation towards digital economy, innovation, green growth, sustainability and harmony of economic development, environmental protection and social welfare for the people.
