Deputy Minister of Commerce in charge of intellectual property cum Director of the US Patent and Trademark Office worked with the National Office of Intellectual Property of Vietnam
On September 15, 2022, Deputy Minister of Commerce in charge of Intellectual Property (IP) cum Director of the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) had a visit and worked with leaders and officials of the NOIP.


Deputy Minister of Trade in charge of IP cum Director of USPTO had a visit and worked with leaders and key officials of NOIP.

Attending the meeting, from the US delegation, there were Mrs Kathi Vidal, US Deputy Secretary of Commerce in charge of IP, cum Director of USPTO; Mrs. Shirin Bidel-Niyat, Chief of Staff, USPTO; Mr. Peter N. Fowler, Senior Advisor for Enforcement, USPTO; Mrs. Grace Ramdat, Director of Strategic Planning and Projects Division, USPTO; Mr. Chanchart Chotiphol, IP Specialist, USPTO; along with representatives of the US Embassy in Hanoi. On the IP side, there were Mr. Dinh Huu Phi, Director of the NOIP; Mr. Tran Le Hong, Deputy Director of NOIP, representative of 15 units under NOIP.

Speaking at the meeting, Director General Dinh Huu Phi expressed his pleasure at the event that Deputy Minister of Trade in charge of IP, cum Director of USPTO visited and worked with the Ministry of Science and Technology (Science and Technology) and NOIP.

The Director affirmed that the Vietnamese Government always considers the US as an important and leading partner, demonstrated through the establishment of a Comprehensive Partnership in many fields. The United States is Vietnam's second largest trading partner, the two countries signed the Vietnam-US Trade Agreement in 2001 and since then have signed a number of other agreements on air and maritime transport, customs and etc.

Vietnamese businesses are increasingly interested in investing in the United States, most recently an investment project of Vinfast Group worth $4 billion, which is expected to create more than 7,000 new jobs in the United States. Therefore, it is time for the IP offices of the two countries to promote cooperation in order to facilitate the investment environment and support enterprises of the two sides in developing production and business activities in each country. Not only is the destination of businesses, the United States is also the destination of many generations of Vietnamese students with a developed and prestigious education in the world.

As of May 31, 2022, NOIP has received 47,353 applications of all kinds, of which: 29,147 applications for establishment of industrial property rights; processed 38,701 applications of all kinds, in which there were 27,549 applications for establishing the right to grant 18,602 industrial property protection certificate.
