20 years, a mark of ups and downs in copyright protection of Vietnamese music
On September 20, in Hanoi, the Vietnam Music Copyright Protection Center (VCPMC) held a press conference to celebrate its 20th anniversary. Many artists were present and shared about the ups and downs of VCPMC.

VCPMC was established on April 19, 2002. After 20 years of establishment and development, the center has gradually improved, becoming an effective and reputable collective representative organization of copyright (in the field of music) with members nationally and internationally.

This is considered a common roof where musicians and authors trust and accompany, as an "extension arm" for state management activities in the enforcement of copyright and related rights protection in Vietnam, contributing to changing awareness and sense of compliance with the law, bringing the law on intellectual property in general, copyright and related rights in particular step by step into social life, in accordance with the law and requirements of the country's development and integration.

From the first stage with the initial membership of 274 musicians, up to now, VCPMC has grown to nearly 5,200 authors. The total amount of money VCPMC has collected over 20 years (2002-2021) is: 1,063,200,000,000 VND. As of September 2022, the Center has signed authorization agreements with 86 collective rights management organizations with a scope of regulation in nearly 160 countries and territories around the world.

Money of Vietnamese works have been collected from foreign organizations (CMOs) since 2010, after VCPMC joined CISAC (International Union of Composers and Lyricists) and started The expansion of authorization with bilateral organizations in the world has reached 19,99,000,000 VND so far and has increased gradually over the years.

Currently, VCPMC is licensing and collecting money to use music copyright in more than 20 fields of music use, including: performing arts, radio-television, television program production, and production of sound recording, video recording, online publishing, music websites and apps, social networks, ringtones, advertising copy, soundtracks, means of transport, service areas that use music at business locations, such as restaurants, hotels, resorts, restaurants, karaoke rooms, bars, coffee shops, tea rooms, supermarkets, shops, commercial centers, shopping malls, amusement parks , health care - fitness - beauty facilities, cinemas and etc.

In the period of 2022 and the following years, VCPMC participates in the joint licensing initiative in the field of public performance with related rights partners (Joint Licensing), specifically: Association for the Protection of Rights of Vietnamese Music Performers (APPA), Recording Industry Association of Vietnam (RIAV), Universal Music Pte., Sony Music and many other strategic partners; at the same time deploying the software "VCPMC Music Connection" to facilitate the use and ensure the rights of rights holders in accordance with the provisions and guidance of the current intellectual property law.
