Planting oranges is in the direction of cleanness, safety
Nga Bay town, Hau Giang province has 2046 hectares of oranges. In 2011, the Agriculture and Fisheries Extension Centre province deployed a model of planting oranges in the direction of food safety for farmers with an area of 30 ha in order to bring organic fertilizer into cultivation; the government supported 30% of organic fertilizer.

Using an organic fertilizer, farmers’ orange orchards developed very well, soil was more fertile than previous time. Mr. Nguyen Dong Khoi in Phu Son hamlet 2A (Tan Thanh), one of the brave farmers registered to use the organic fertilizer for orange orchards. He said: "Manuring fertilization organic is slowly effective compared to chemical fertilizers, but it gives practical and useful result. With 12 hectare of oranges, each year my family harvests over 30 tons of fruit; he deducts costs and gets revenues about 100 million VND. Using the organic fertilizer, the farmers can save production cost about one million VND / hectare/year. This work not only ensures safety of consumers, but also it can prolong life for plants".

Looking the lush orange orchards, large and glossy fruits, Mrs.Nguyen Thi Dep Em was very happy. With 16 hectare of oranges, the productivity was over 40 tons of fruit, annual year Mrs. Thu’s family got income over 150 million VND. According to Mrs.Dep Em’s experiences, manuring organic fertilizer, and farmers regularly need to water for plants to absorb nutrients, and increase crop yields. Planting oranges towards safety, the farmers will gain higher profits, but it is important that orange producers were not afraid and unmarketable.

Mr. Nguyen Huu Tri, deputy Economic division of Nga Bay town, said: "Currently, Nga Bay has established a cooperative group of the clean orange plantation with 43 households. According to estimation of Department, using organic fertilizers for crops not only helps people to save production costs, increase economic efficiency, but also it is important to create the porous soil, and help plants to absorb nutrients easily. From first results, local people have been replicating models to obtain high result in the process of planting fruits".
