Surgical cases of neuroblastoma for baby Doan The B (30 months old, in Lang Son) is considered a breakthrough in surgical neuroma of Vietnam medicine in general and Central Paediatrics hospital in particular. According to doctors of Paediatrics hospital, Vietnam and world medical documents didn’t recognize the similar surgeries of B case.
Niece B had prolonged diarrhea, belly bloating, hypokalemia since 20 months of age and often went to hospital for treatment but to be of no avail. The baby went to Oncology of Central Paediatrics hospital with signs of high blood pressure, diarrhea 5-7 times a day, adrenal adenoma in 2 sides. The doctors said that the tumor was not metastatic.
After further consultation and making other necessary tests, B was diagnosed with neuroblastoma and 4 chemotherapy times. However, after chemotherapy, tumor size is no smaller.
B had laparotomy surgery to cut entire abdominal tumors, preservation of 2 adrenals, and after that performing two endoscopic thoracic sides to cut off all tumors in the chest within 5 hours.
On the third day after surgery, the patient recovered well, can feed back orally, and reversed diarrhea and normal blood potassium. B was discharged on the 9th postoperative day in good health status and appointed for tracking regular checkups.
Prof. Dr. Tran Ngoc Son, Deputy Director of Surgery, said, neuroblastoma is one of the most common cancer in children. However, this kind of cancer in B is very rare. |
