Vietnam has attracted the attention of many US investors in the technology sector - Illustration
Science and technology cooperation between Vietnam and the United States took place in the late 70s of the last century, within the framework of cooperation between US NGOs and Vietnamese research institutes/schools. After Vietnam and the United States normalized relations (1995), the two sides actively implemented science and technology cooperation and jointly built legal frameworks for science and technology cooperation.
Facing the rapid development of the 4th industrial revolution, both Vietnam and the United States recognize the importance of science and technology, innovation and have conducted many activities to promote cooperation between research institutes, universities, and businesses in the innovation systems of the two countries. The governments and people of the two countries have high support for the development of bilateral cooperation in the fields of science, technology and innovation.
Currently, the number of Vietnamese international students in the United States ranks 5th among countries with students at US universities. This well-trained human resources team will be an important driving force in the development of science, technology and innovation in Vietnam in the coming time.
The United States also actively supports Vietnamese universities in developing the higher education system with projects supporting research equipment for the Maker Space at Can Tho University funded by USAID; renewing the 6-year university training program for medical doctors at 5 universities of medicine and pharmacy; reforming the theory-based training program to a comprehensive program supported by the IMPACT MED Alliance; implementing the Higher Education Innovation (PHER) project funded by USAID.
In addition to cooperation in the field of human resource training, US businesses and agencies also actively cooperate with Vietnamese ministries, branches, agencies and businesses, such as cooperation programs within the framework of the Science and Technology Cooperation Committee between Vietnam and the United States. US businesses such as Intel, Nvidia, Synopsys, and etc. deploy many investment projects operating in Vietnam, cooperating with Vietnamese businesses.
Hopefully the good results from the recent visit of US President Joe Biden to Vietnam and the upcoming business trip of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to the US will open up enormous potential for cooperation between the two countries. Along with the programs and implementation plans that have been discussed and agreed upon by both sides, there is a basis to believe that Vietnam's science, technology and innovation sector will have many exciting activities in the coming time with the United States, the world's leading technology partner today. |
