Ho Chi Minh City: Unusual brands of moon cakes of unknown origin are widely sold
Even though the Mid-Autumn Festival is still half a month away, it is noted that in Ho Chi Minh City, a series of stalls selling moon cakes have posted discount signs and even sell them with many types of cheap strange brand cakes.

Many branded moon cakes are sold with cheap unlabeled products of unknown origin

At the moon cake store on Truong Chinh Street (Tan Binh District), branded moon cakes are sold for nearly 100,000 VND/piece. Meanwhile, some cakes without labels cost less than 50,000 VND/piece.

Notably, many moon cake stalls display signs of famous brands but are sold with cakes of different brands. Many types of cakes do not have information about the production facility or expiration date on the packaging... The price of these "strange" cakes is only about 40,000 - 50,000 VND/piece.

In some markets, consumers can easily find many types of cheap moon cakes, with only generic names printed on the packaging such as Moon Cake, VQC, TQ, MP, and etc. and no expiration date. According to records, moon cakes with 4 flavors and no eggs at retail markets cost 20,000 VND/piece; Mixed type costs 25,000 VND/piece; Roasted chicken cake 30,000 VND/piece. Many places sell boxes of 6 cakes for about 200,000 VND/box. There are even cakes sold by the kilogram, priced at about 120,000 VND/kg.

According to food experts, moon cakes without labels, unknown origin, expiration date... will pose many potential risks affecting human health. Especially cakes with super cheap prices, raw materials of poor quality, poor food hygiene and safety, and users can get food poisoning.
