A newly-discovered silver-head snake species is poisonous
Specimens of the new snack species were collected in Cao Bang, Lang Son and Vinh Phuc, Lạng Sơn where have elevations between 800-1800 meters.


A newly-discovered silver-head snake species is poisonous

Three scientists from Vietnam Museum of Nature and Institute of Russia Federal Republic Animal discovered and published a new species of poisonous snake in Vietnam.

Based on the evidence of comparative morphology and structure of the skeleton with others in similar snakes were recorded previously in Vietnam and China, scientists have determined this is a new snack species.

New snake species is named after a Russian zoologist Vladimir Kharin in order to honor his great contributions in the study of reptile and fish species in Asia.

This new snack species is a species of silver-head viper, has identifiable characteristics, such as white head with two black stripes, a body length about 759-980 mm, with 17 rows of fine scales on the body, short tail, 183 -199 belly scale lines, 186-201 vertebral body, 46-51caudal vertebrae.

This is the second silver-head viper species of the genus Azemiops and 60th poisonous snake species of 210 species of snakes was recorded in Vietnam until now.
