Promulgating organic agricultural standards to support production and business activities of enterprises. Illustration.
According to an AC Nielsen organic food consumption trend report, up to 86% of Vietnamese consumers prefer organic food for their daily meals because of its safety, nutrition and taste. This fact shows that, as incomes and living standards are increasing, consumers are gradually moving towards a green and healthy lifestyle through the use of environmentally friendly organic agricultural products.
In order to meet the objectives of the ASEAN organic agriculture standards, organic agriculture needs to meet the following objectives: applying long-term, sustainable, ecologically-oriented and systematic organic production; ensuring long-term soil fertility and based on soil biology; minimizing and avoiding the use of synthetic inputs and materials at all stages of the production chain, as well as human and environmental exposure to persistent or potentially harmful chemicals; minimize pollution from production activities to the surrounding environment; do not use technologies of non-natural origin (for example, products from genetic engineering, irradiation technology...); avoid pollution from the surrounding environment; maintain organic properties during production, preliminary processing, processing, packaging, storage and transportation.
Vietnam needs to apply national standards (TCVN) in harmony with international and regional standards, which will help individuals and organizations, especially businesses to access information, learn and apply correctly use the TCVN on organic agriculture. Thence, enterprises have made timely adjustments in production and business, in accordance with the requirements of state management and society; improve product quality, facilitate access to international markets. The published TCVN will contribute to the transparency of production, processing, certification, labeling and trading of organic agricultural products, creating a driving force for the sustainable development of the organic agriculture industry. |
