National Strategy on Biodiversity: Conservation and Sustainable Use
One of the urgent problems posed today for Vietnam's environment is to promote the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity.


In fact, for the preservation and sustainable use of biodiversity, from the 1960s, Vietnam has issued many legal documents and policies for biodiversity conservation, such as the Law on Forest Protection and Development, environmental Protection Act, Fisheries Act.... In particular, the Biodiversity Law was enacted in 2008 created the legal basis for the local community to join the conservation of natural resources through new mechanisms of co-management and benefit sharing.
To date, Vietnam has made many achievements in the field of biodiversity conservation. Noting especially the forest cover increased up to 39.5%. The country has 128 protected areas on land were built, accounting for 7.6% of the national territory ...

However, according to Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Bui Cach Tuyen, the past two decades, our country's economy grew rapidly with the increase in population, which has created huge demand for the resource consumption as well as land use. Besides, it severely affected by global climate change causing biodiversity degradation in Vietnam with very fast speed. Many types of sensitive ecosystems, unsustainable canceled harm.... The management, conservation of biodiversity facing many challenges.
In this context, the Prime Minister approved the National Strategy on Biodiversity in 2020, with a vision to 2030. The goal of the strategy in 2020: the area of ​​nature conservation on land reached 9% of the territory, the area of marine protected areas reached 0.24% of the sea, the forest cover at 45 %, 15% of the important natural ecosystem degradation are recovery, the number of natural protected areas of Vietnam are internationally reaching 10 Ramsar sites, 10 biosphere reserves, 10 gardens ASEAN heritage.

By 2030, 25% of the natural ecosystem is internationally important, degraded nations are recovered, biodiversity conservation and the sustainable use, that brings major benefits to the population and contribute significantly to the economic development - the country's society.

The strategy also sets out the task of preserving natural ecosystems, conservation of wildlife and domestic animals, endangered plants, rare.
