Ho Chi Minh City leaders want to implement sandbox testing mechanisms in the field of science and technology, starting with autonomous vehicles.

In early April 2024, during the meeting to review the socio-economic development situation of Ho Chi Minh City in the first quarter and deploy key tasks and solutions for the second quarter, Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Phan Van Mai urged the City to focus on Implement tasks related to digital transformation and implement Resolution No. 98 of the National Assembly allowing pilot-specific mechanisms for the City.

Regarding Resolution No. 98, Mr. Mai requested to focus on completing documents to submit the implementation of the sandbox testing mechanism in the field of science and technology. According to him, first of all, the City can issue a testing mechanism in the field of drones and unmanned vehicles and will consider further with wifi.

Along with that, the City will organize and complete the traffic emissions control project. This is an important content to concretize Resolution No. 98, contributing to solving the problem of sustainable development.

Testing of unmanned vehicles and other technology fields has been proposed by the Department of Science and Technology since last year, expected to be deployed in technology parks and innovation centers. Product testing businesses will receive maximum support of 30% of total funding from the budget and legal support in applying for licenses within and outside the jurisdiction of the People's Committee.

According to the Department of Science and Technology, tested technology must be designed, build a risk management framework, and limit negative impacts on society. Enterprises must develop reasonable plans to handle and overcome problems that occur during testing. Technology must also be supplied to the market after completing testing and bringing socio-economic efficiency to the city.
