A research team led by Associate Professor, Dr. Huynh Trong Phuoc, lecturer at the Polytechnic School, Can Tho University, has succeeded in developing a material to replace leveling sand from industrial by-products. The research is based on using by-products, such as sedimentation sludge, coal-fired power ash and incinerator slag to create new load-bearing backfill materials.
The carefully tuned mixing formula combines settled sludge with fly ash, cement and other additives, creating a controlled low strength material (CLSM). The special thing is that these ingredients are selected to be similar to the composition of backfill sand, thereby ensuring the suitability and effectiveness of the product.
This method not only helps solve the problem of backfilling sand supply but also brings many other benefits. CLSM materials can be adapted to serve different uses, from concrete to leveling, with stiffness and load-bearing capacity adjusted accordingly.
Research results open up prospects for solving environmental and resource problems. The creativity and efforts of researchers have brought hope to the building materials sector for more sustainable solutions. |
