Market linkages help farmers collect 150 million VND / ha of vegetables per year

Sustainable supply chain for Moc Chau safe vegetable products (Son La) is one of the projects that the Australian Center for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) is implementing. The project helps to provide local vegetables and safe-season vegetables for the Hanoi market.

Economic development, income increasing for Vietnamese farmers is one of the fundamental and long-term goals that ACIAR seeks. Since 2008, ACIAR has implemented 4 major projects in Lao Cai and Son La to enhance the capacity and skills of farmers to produce and supply quality vegetables for the Hanoi market, especially the summer.
The project has supported the establishment of four cooperatives and six cooperative groups, including 170 farmers in Moc Chau and Van Ho districts, producing safe vegetables in VIETGAP on a total area of 52ha, supplying 2,600 tons of vegetables. Hanoi, Quang Ninh, Hai Phong etc. The supply chain of vegetables has benefited all participating partners.
According to the calculations of farmers, each hectare of vegetables can earn an average of 150 million VND per year, seven times higher than the level of 20 million VND from rice and corn on the same unit area. In addition, vegetable planting farmers in Moc Chau, Van Ho (Son La) are also eligible to use the trademark 'Moc Chau Safe Vegetables'. |
