Solutions for Sustainable Development of Mango in the Mekong Delta KHPTO - Dong Thap Provincial People's Committee recently organized a workshop on "Postharvest Technology for Mekong Mango industry" to evaluate the situation and find solutions for the sustainable development of this industry.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tai, deputy director of the Dong Thap Agriculture and Rural Development Department, said that there were over 84,500 hectares of mangos in the whole country, producing nearly 930,000 tonnes a year. Most concentrated in the Mekong Delta (55% of area, more than 60% of output), of which Dong Thap is the leading locality in area and second in output.
At the workshop, experts pointed out many congestion for the mango industry, which is the loss rate in the process of harvesting and transport, storage and post harvest is quite large, sometimes it is up to 70%; Processing technology creates value added products are many inadequacies.
Technological barriers, pesticide residue standards meet different markets are major challenges today. |
