Vietnam is capable of testing and detecting pig flu virus
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said that currently, the laboratories of the Veterinary Department have all the capabilities, materials to test and detect flu viruses in general; including swine flu virus, including pdm / 09 H1N1 strain by real-time PCR and genetic sequencing of influenza virus.

In the years 2013-2014, the Department of Animal Health and the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology collaborated with the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to organize proactive surveillance, taking 7,500 samples to serve throat and swine sera at 220 slaughterhouses in 9 provinces and cities and 1,512 samples of nose and throat swabs of people involved in slaughtering pigs at these slaughterhouses to examine the virus pdm / 09 H1N1, H3N2 and H5N1.

The results showed that, for human samples, there were 4 samples of oropharynx positive for influenza A / H3 virus; 19% of serum samples tested positive for antibody to pdm / 09 H1N1 virus, 11% of serum samples tested positive for antibody to influenza A / H3 virus.

For pig samples, 1.1% of pharyngeal samples were positive for influenza A virus (without positive samples H1 and H3); 10 serum samples positive for influenza A / H1 antibody and 21 serotypes positive for influenza A / H3 virus.

In the period of 2010-2018, the Department of Animal Health in collaborated with the Japan Veterinary Institute to organize an active surveillance, taking 14,600 samples of oropharyngeal fluid and pig serum at 270 pig farms and 10 pig slaughter facilities in the northern and southern regions. Results, a total of 527 samples detected H1N1 influenza virus, pdm / 09 H1N1, H1N2 and H3N2.

According to HA genetic analysis, Japanese experts said that they had discovered a sample of H1N1 flu virus collected at the end of 2018 in Bac Ninh belonging to EA, clade 1C.2.3. However, to confirm whether this strain has a genotype of G4 or not, Japanese experts will continue to analyze and answer in the future.

In the years 2012 - 2017, DAH collaborated with FAO to organize proactive surveillance, taking 13,500 samples of pig pharyngeal samples at pig farms. As a result, a total of 688 samples of influenza A virus were detected (5.1%); H1N1 influenza virus was not detected.

To prevent and control pig flu, on 28/4/2009, Department of Animal Health issued Official Letter No. 653 / TY-DT on guiding technical measures to identify, detect, handle, and prevent influenza. At present, measures to prevent and control diseases in general, including influenza in animals, are implemented in accordance with the Veterinary Law and the documents guiding the implementation of the Veterinary Law.
