Vietnam is considered to have great potential in orchid production, especially in the southern region with year-round warm weather, high light intensity and suitable lighting length for plants to grow and develop. However, the actual situation of orchid production in Vietnam is not commensurate with its potential. A few localities also planted hybrid crane orchids, but just stopped at a small household scale, not yet agreed on the process of growing hybrid orchid, research on hybrid crane orchid is still limited. Besides, although there have been many in vitro propagation studies that have produced a large number of seedlings, the research has completed the process of planting and taking care of seedlings in vitro from the nursery stage to the commercial product has not yet been implemented.

In addition, in Ho Chi Minh City, orchids have not yet met the market demand in both quantity and quality. In fact, they only meet about 25% - 30% of domestic consumption demand, the rest is from the domestic marke, other provinces and from imported sources.

The results of the project also build up the technical process of growing hybrid crane orchid from the seedling stage tissue culture in Ho Chi Minh City with full implementation steps and technical parameters, such as nursery preparation, selection of seeds, preparing substrates, preparing seedlings, planting techniques, preparing net houses, planting plants in pots, taking care of, and etc. The process can be applied to grow hybrid crane orchids from tissue culture varieties in Ho Chi Minh City for good growth.
