On September 20, 2017, in Hanoi, World Bank (WB) and Electricity Group of Vietnam (EVN) launched a campaign to promote the deployment of renewable energy with the installation of 5 solar energy measurement stations across the country.

These stations will collect high-quality data on solar radiation and improve the accuracy of the estimation of solar energy. The collected data will be released online, provided free of charge, to encourage and support investors interested in building a solar power plant in Vietnam.
The solar energy measurement campaign is a continuation step after the World Bank releases new updated energy maps for Vietnam showing the average potential of solar power resources at a resolution of 1km. Data and maps can be accessed through the Global Solar Atlas.
After two years of measurement, Vietnam's solar map will be fully verified with good quality for planning and exploration.
At the launching ceremony, Mr. Ousmane Dione, Director of World Bank in Vietnam, said that the cost of producing solar power is declining around the world. Vietnam is making important strides in promoting a conducive environment for rapid building and clean power production. |
