Take a look at his garden, we were surprised for what he had done, a veteran from Kien Giang, he just moved to Can Tho 2 years ago. With the area of 1,000 m2, he built a pond of 150 m2 for raising Trionychid turtle, in the pond surface, there are various kinds of veggies, and he rose to improve daily meal.
According to Mr. Nguyen: “I used to raise various livestock, and started to raise Trionychid turtle 3 years ago in Giong Rieng – Kien Giang, so I am confident with this project as experiences that I have collected.”
This is not a farm in large scale, but he confidently invested, and designed with appropriate technical standards. Surrounding is covered with tole to ensure that livestock can’t get out of his pond. In addition, his model has an egg incubator, sand beach which is required for breeding.
Currently, he has bred 1,000 Trionychid turtles; it is hybrid between Taiwan and Thailand. Its main food is fish and pellet, but he prefers to use available food resource, to reduce costs. In floating season, there are abundant foods to feed Trionychid turtles, such as fish, snail etc.
According to Mr. Nguyen: raising Trionychid turtles is considered as a success when living rate gets 80%. After 36 months of raising, it weights about 1, 4 – 1, 5 kg, best quality cost is about 340,000 -350,000 VND/Kg, and the second type is about 280.000 – 290,000 VND/kg.
To achieve high-sustainable yield, Mr. Nguyen learnt and looked for various documents about Trionychid turtle characterization and growth process.
According to his experiences, Trionychid turtles seem not easy to get sick. To get a sure success, the farmers must ensure ponds in line with technical regulations, good environment and clean foods. |
