Research for dolphin artificial breeding

An Giang Council for Science and Technology has approved the project “techniques for dolphin artificial insemination in An Giang province”, Dr. Duong Nhat Long (Can Tho University) is project leader.

The research demonstrated that in natural environment, dolphins often breed annually from June to August. The Coefficient of sexual maturity in dolphin is very low with the average of 2,4%; the rate of absolute reproduction of dolphins were 4,220 eggs / female dolphin and relatively reproduced rate reached 185, 717 eggs / kg / female dolphin.
In term of raising in net (deploy in pond) or cage (in river) has lowered coefficient of sexual maturity with 3,773 eggs/ female dolphin (rate of absolute reproduction of dolphins) and 128,000 eggs / kg / female dolphin (relatively reproduced rate). |
