Estimation of polyphenol content, chlorophyll with antioxidant activity of the extract segments from maize

The maize contains a lot of biologically active substances, such as polyphenols, chlorophyll, lysine, vitamin, etc. In traditional medicine, it is used to treat different diseases: kidney stones, bladder stones, sweating, liver, kidney, etc.

In Vietnam, there is no study of the polyphenols, chlorophyll with antioxidant activity from maize. Mainly biological effects of maize are presented in traditional medicine.
Therefore, Mr. Dang Xuan Cuong (Nha Trang Institute of Resaerch and Applied Technology) and Mr. Dao Trong Hieu (Department of Processing and Trade of Agriculture, Forestry and Fishery and Salt production - MARD) conducted research on the processes of cleaning polyphenols, chlorophyll and antioxidant activity in different segments for purification of polyphenols, chlorophyll with antioxidants activity applied in functional foods and pharmaceuticals.
Polyphenol, chlorophyll contents with antioxidant activity (total, reduced iron and DPPH) in partial maize was evaluated. The results showed that the polyphenol content in corn stalk is highest, chlorophyll content with total antioxidant activity and iron reduction is highest at maize leaves. DPPH leaves and roots of maize are best. Segment of etyla acetate for polyphenol content and antioxidant activity is highest. |
