Technological innovation - the 'key' to develop the digital and green economy
Technological innovation to play a key role in the digital transformation process and building a green economy in Vietnam, policies and solutions to support investment, connectivity, legality and human resource development will need to be prioritized and focused on implementation.

According to Mr. Chu Duc Hoang - Chief of the Office of the National Technology Innovation Fund (Ministry of Science and Technology), technological innovation is the process of applying new or improved ideas, methods, and technological processes to production and life practices, to improve quality, efficiency and create new value.

In Vietnam, technological innovation mainly focuses on applying and improving existing technologies, not focusing on research and development of source and new technologies. For technological innovation to play a key role in the digital transformation process and building a green economy in Vietnam, policies and solutions to support investment, connectivity, legality and human resource development will need to be prioritized and focused on implementation.

Mr. Hoang said that Vietnam is facing many difficulties and challenges in the process of developing the digital and green economy, such as limited 5G infrastructure; The new technology human resource is only about 500,000 information technology workers, while the need is for 1 million by 2025;

Nearly 77% of workers in the manufacturing and processing industry have not been trained or have only received elementary training. Small and medium-sized enterprises, limited technological capacity: more than 97% of enterprises are small and micro, only about 5% of enterprises participate in the global value chain; About 70% of businesses use medium technology.

The digital economy and green economy gap between localities are still far, in which large cities such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Nang account for 70% of digital technology enterprises and clean energy and clean production projects concentrated mainly in the South and Central regions," Mr. Chu Duc Hoang said.

The Chief of the Office of the National Technology Innovation Fund also emphasized that technological innovation plays an important role in developing the digital and green economy through promoting the application of clean technology, renewable energy, and developing environmentally friendly products and services, improving the efficiency of resource and energy use in production.

Vietnam aims to strongly develop renewable energy sources for electricity production, reaching a rate of about 30.9 - 39.2% by 2030, aiming for a renewable energy rate of 47% with the condition that ensure that commitments under the Political Declaration establishing the Fair Energy Transition Partners (JETP) with Vietnam are fully and practically implemented by international partners.
