Institute of Ecology and Biological Resources (under Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology) and the German experts surveyed, studied Hon Khoai island cluster, discovered more than 700 individual yellow-tailed geckos.

"Finding these individuals are a good sign. We are asking Provincial People’s Committee for the establishment of nature reserve to protect the yellow-tailed gecko species," Ca Mau Forest Protection officials said, this species is only in Hon Khoai island.

Functional agency has proposed this rare species in Vietnamese Red Data Book, while improving records to propose list of CITES Convention - International Trade Convention of Endangered fauna and flora Species.
