Ho Chi Minh city and Netherlands cooperated in response to climate change
In the afternoon of March 31, Mr. Le Thanh Liem, Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh People's Committee and the departments, branches of the city had a meeting with Ms. Melanie Schultz van Gaegen, Dutch Minister of Infrastructure and Environment on cooperation to cope with climate change.

Thanked to the enthusiastic support and the effectiveness of the Netherlands in the field of responding to climate change, managing water resources and prevent flooding, Mr. Le Thanh Liem said, these are important areas and more becomes imperative for the sustainable development of Ho Chi Minh City in the future.

Currently, the saltwater intrusion problem is not just  challenge of Ho Chi Minh city, but also throughout the Mekong Delta, so Ho Chi Minh city desired Netherlands supported to respond to these challenges. The units of Ho Chi Minh city will work with  Netherlands to research applicability of filtering technologies and other technologies in the city.

At the meeting, the two sides also shared much information about Biesbosch reservoirs (Rotterdam), a collaboration between Ho Chi Minh city and Rotterdam city in the past time, Khanh Hoi regulator lake and etc.

According Ms.to Paula Verhoeven, Director of Rotterdam Sustainable Development Program, the response to climate change is a long-term problem and a great challenge. Khanh Hoi regulator lake park project has been identified as an important solution of Ho Chi Minh city, because the situation of climate change are complex, make up flood risk chain - dehydration - dry . The Dutch side is ready to cooperate with Ho Chi Minh city in this matter.

In this occasion, Ho Chi Minh Submerge Prevention Program Executive Center  and Dutch Water Managemt Authority signed a memorandum of cooperation to strengthen the capacity of Ho Chi Minh Anti-flooding Program Operation Center period 2. In which, the two sides will strengthen exchanges of experiences and cooperation for mutual benefit based on the expertise and experiences of each party.
