Improve the quality of products bearing geographical indications
Currently, the improvement of the quality of products bearing geographical indications is mainly due to the enterprises themselves, the lack of effective control by the authorities, so there is an uneven quality situation in the geographical indication areas.

Over the past time, the development of Vietnam's agricultural market has shown the position, role and great potential of agricultural products associated with geographical indications (GIs). Some GIs have developed well, and after being protected, their prices tend to increase, such as: Cao Phong orange increased nearly doubled, Dai Hoang banana increased 100 to 130%, Phuc Trach pomelo increased 10 to 15%, Luan Van pomelo increased 3.5 times. Many export products have GIs attached such as Son La coffee, Phu Quoc fish sauce, Thanh Ha lychee, Hoa Loc sand mango, Luc Ngan lychee and etc.

That result is partly thanks to the locality, the enterprise has made a difference in quality and expanded the market by promoting the application of science and technology, building and applying quality standards for products bearing GIs.

However, experts said that at present, the improvement of the quality of products bearing GIs is mainly due to the enterprises themselves, the lack of effective control by the authorities, thus, the quality is inconsistent in the GI area, affecting the product's reputation.

According to Mr. Do Van Khoa, Director of Ha Tinh Department of Science and Technology, GIs are only certificates for products with reputation and quality due to specific geographical conditions in that region or locality. To develop GIs, it is imperative to develop standards for products that are suitable for the target market. Most of the localities have only established GIs and traceability, but have not yet established product standards in the GI region. Only building standards for the identification area will give uniform product quality.

Therefore, in order to bring into full play the potential value of GIs, GI management organizations need to support resident communities and manufacturers to establish collective organizations to manage GIs or improve their capacity collective organization to perform its role, especially the quality control of products bearing GIs. In addition, there should be strong involvement of management agencies to check and monitor the compliance with the requirements of GIs.
