The Vietnamese delegation attended the WIPO General Assembly 2023.
From July 10-13, 2023, the delegation of the Ministry of Science and Technology led by Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Giang attended the 64th Session of the General Assembly of WIPO in Geneva, Switzerland.
The WIPO General Assembly is the most important WIPO activity of the year. This is a forum for WIPO member countries to exchange, discuss and make decisions on WIPO's activities, as well as development orientation of the global IP system.
This year's meeting saw the attendance of a large number of delegates including the WIPO Leadership Board, a number of Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Chief Ambassadors of the Delegations of countries in Geneva, and delegations of WIPO member countries. Attending the meeting, there were representatives of intergovernmental organizations, non-governmental organizations and observer organizations. The Vietnamese delegation to the WIPO General Assembly included Mr. Nguyen Hoang Giang, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology; Mrs. Le Thi Tuyet Mai, Ambassador, Head of the Permanent Delegation of Vietnam to the United Nations, World Trade Organization and other international organizations in Geneva; Mr. Dinh Huu Phi, Director of NOIP; Mr. Tran Le Hong, Deputy Director of NOIP; Mrs. Le Thi Viet Lam, Deputy Director of International Cooperation Department, Ministry of Science and Technology and Mr. Le Minh Tuan, Deputy Director of Copyright Department, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
On behalf of the Vietnamese Delegation, Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Giang delivered a speech at the meeting. In his speech, the Deputy Minister mentioned that the world is facing global problems, such as new diseases, climate change or food security that have been affecting the economies of countries and the lives of millions of people in different regions of the world. To solve these problems, it is necessary to continue to promote multilateral cooperation, pursue the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, continue to encourage the development of science, technology and innovation, in which IP is a key tool.
Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Giang highly appreciated WIPO's initiatives to support member countries, especially those targeting priority subjects, such as businesses, women and young people in using and exploiting IP rights as a tool to promote economic growth, attract investment, create jobs and improve the lives of the community. |
