Another unique aspect of the Toshiba 4K TV offering is it’s Time Shift Machine feature that enables it to save up to 80 hours of content. However, this will only be possible with Toshiba’s THD-450T1 USB hard-drive that has a capacity of 4.5 TB. The drive can be attached to the back of the TV itself and can record content from up to 6 channels simultaneously. The drive will go on sale alongside the Z8X series in June. Similarly, ‘Zanmai Play’ is another interesting feature of the Z8X series that will recommend the user to watch programs from the recorded stuff based on the user’s previous viewing trends.

Another innovative aspect of the Z8X series is that the 4k TVs will be compatible with Japan’s first Hybridcast tech, which has been developed by NHK Science & Technology Research Laboratories. The key aspect of the transmission tech is the way it ‘blends traditional broadcasts with internet-funneled add-on data’. The broadcasts are expected to start, ‘albeit as a trial only, sometime this year, and will add greater contextual and interactive information to digital TV. The system will be able to show program information on-screen, as well as work with second-screen devices like smartphones and tablets.’

The TV’s sound system comprises of two speakers along each side which together belts out 40 W of sound output. Other salient features of the Regza Z8X include four HDMI ports, an Ethernet slot, USB ports as well as an SD/SDXC card reader. The Z8X also boasts of DLNA streaming ability.
