According to the World Nature News, the peculiar shape of the fish was discovered in northern territory water of Nunavut by fishermen on a fishing boat. Initially, they thought it was a fish of goblin sharks.

However, according to the conclusions of Nigel Hussey, a researcher at University of Windsor, this is a rare long-nosed fish, scientific name is Rhinochimaeridae atlantica. The fish has long tails and nose, mouth with teeth sharp, spine with venom. This species usually lives at depths of 600-700 m.

Long nosed fish species is related to stingrays and sharks. It has lived in the ocean more than 350 million years.

Hussey also said that they could find this fish species in greater numbers at depths ranging from 1,000-2,000 m.

This is the second time a long-nosed fish found in Canada. Previously, a fish of this species was discovered in Hudson Strait, North of Canada.
