Vietnam and the United States promoted clean energy transition and climate change adaptation cooperation
Vietnam has expressed its determination to soon adopt Power Plan VIII (PDP-8) with a national electricity development roadmap in line with the goal of net zero emissions by 2050.

From September 2 to 6, John Kerry, Special Envoy of the President of the United States on climate change, visited and worked in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Ben Tre to survey the impacts of climate change in the Mekong Delta.

Mr. John Kerry also participated in bilateral dialogues on the topic of climate change with the Government of Vietnam and continued the exchanges between the two sides since 2013 so far on Vietnam's clean energy transition.

During a bilateral dialogue on climate change with Mr. John Kerry, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh agreed to deepen cooperation with the United States to promote the transition to clean energy in Vietnam and other efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Within the framework of the recent COP26 in Glasgow, Scotland, Vietnam has committed to achieve "zero" net emissions by 2050; at the same time, making Vietnam a leading country in the region in the fight against the climate crisis.

Vietnam calls for specific international support in wind and solar energy potential assessment, technology development and transfer, renewable energy development and supporting industries, and preferential financial support, develop human resources, management skills, strengthen the resilience of vulnerable communities in Vietnam, including the Mekong Delta region.”
