Ca Mau: Potential renewable energy development
On October 24, Ca Mau Provincial People's Committee held a conference on renewable energy development and evaluated the potential of renewable energy (RE) forms from now to 2030 with a vision to 2035. Attending the conference, there were Pham Trong Thuc, Department of Renewable Energy (Ministry of Industry and Trade) with leaders of branches, localities and more than 150 enterprises inside and outside the province.

Speaking at the opening of the conference, Mr. Lam Van Bi - Vice Chairman of Ca Mau People's Committee affirmed that, with geographical features and natural conditions, Ca Mau is very convenient to develop 3 types of renewable energy, including wind power, and biomass energy. These sources of energy are potential contributing to the socio-economic development of the province, ensuring energy security, friendly and environmental protection. It is expected that in the coming time, the province will receive more attention from ministries, central agencies and investors to build Ca Mau as a regional renewable energy center.

The plan to develop grid connected solar power plants by 2015 is about 1,500 megawatts, mainly developed in coastal areas, mudflats combined with wind power plants, such as Dat Mui commune, Ngoc Hien district. In addition, Ca Mau has the potential to develop solar power on the roof. For biomass power, the plan will be implemented in U Minh district with the project of wood electricity and waste electrical projects in two districts of Cai Nuoc and U Minh.

According to Mr. To Hoai Dan, General Director of Cong Ly Company, Ca Mau has the advantage of developing wind power due to the area, long coast and environmentally friendly. Currently, wind power projects in the Mekong Delta such as Bac Lieu wind power plant have been operated; The wind power project of Khai Long - Ca Mau is underway. In addition, harnessing wind energy saves on transmission costs. However, for businesses to "pay attention to" investment in renewable energy, they need appropriate mechanisms, long-term, especially tax incentives, electricity purchase price, mechanism of selling electricity.
