Vietnam's wind power potential is 6 higher times than expected capacity of the power sector by 2020
Vietnam has great potential for wind power development. In which, Binh Thuan and Ninh Thuan are two provinces with the highest potential and high wind speed. However, currently only four wind power projects have electricity and are integrated into the national power system.

Danish wind power experts shared wind power development in Vietnam.

This information was presented at the workshop "Wind energy in Vietnam: investment and profit from wind" organized by Embassy of Denmark in cooperation with Vestas Group (Denmark) on December 5, in Ho Chi Minh City.

In a study of the World Bank, 8.6% of Vietnam's land area is rich in potential, facilitating the installation of large wind turbines. Meanwhile, the corresponding figures for Cambodia are 0.2%, Laos 2.9% and Thailand 0.2%.

Vietnam has the largest wind power potential in Southeast Asia with a total wind potential of more than 513 thousand megawatts, 6 higher times than the expected capacity of the power sector by 2020 and much larger than the potential Water in the region such as Thailand (152,392 MW), Laos (182,252 MW) and Cambodia (26,000 MW).

At the workshop "Wind energy in Vietnam: investment and profit from wind," Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Hung, Deputy Director of the Department of Economics said, Forecasting and Energy Demand Management, Institute of Energy, said that barriers wind power development is mainly due to our lack of capacity to evaluate and develop projects, poor infrastructure.
