Solutions for sustainable development of grid-connected renewable energy and rooftop solar power
Clear mechanisms are needed in bidding for grid-connected renewable energy (RE) projects, as well as promoting the privatization of transmission grid investment, are important solutions proposed at the workshop. Sustainable development of renewable energy grid connected and rooftop solar power organized by the Ministry of Industry and Trade on 9/7/2020 in Ho Chi Minh City.

In the recent years, the demand for electricity for production and socio-economic development has been increasing, which is a huge challenge for the electricity industry in the context of the domestic primary energy supply. Unequal distribution of power sources and loads causes a great pressure on the North-South 500 kV transmission line system.

In the context of the electricity system is under pressure to ensure electricity supply, especially after 2020 when the country does not have many new sources of exploitation, the development of grid-connected renewable energy projects and rooftop solar power is considered as one of the important solutions contributing to the thorough exploitation of renewable natural resources to generate electricity for the country's socio-economic development.

In addition, the development of renewable energy and rooftop solar power will help take advantage of unused agricultural land and tens of millions of roofs for households, agencies, offices, industrial parks in order to increase the power output and help reduce the pressure on the national electricity system.

In fact, with the orientation of developing a green, sustainable economy in line with international commitments, in the recent years, the Government has also issued many mechanisms and policies to encourage the development of renewable energy resources, such as Decision No. 2068 / QD-TTg dated November 25, 2015 approving the Renewable Energy Development Strategy of Vietnam until 2030, with a vision to 2050; Decision No. 13 / QD-TTg dated April 6, 2020 of the Prime Minister on the mechanism to encourage the development of solar power projects in Vietnam; Decision No. 39/2018 / QD-TTg of the Prime Minister on September 10, 2018 on the mechanism to support the development of wind power projects in Vietnam. With a clear mechanism and the drastic participation of the ministries / sectors and businesses,  in the past few years, electricity production from RE sources, contributing more than 3 billion kWh per month, accounting for about 10% of capacity and 6% of national itrade output.

According to Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Hoang Quoc Vuong, the policy and strategic orientation of the Party and the State on energy development, including renewable energy, have been very clear. The Government has also introduced incentive mechanisms and suitable policies to development practices for each period and towards fairness and transparency, creating favorable conditions for all economic sectors to participate in development in order to exploit all advantages and potential of renewable energy resources in Vietnam for sustainable socio-economic development.
