The market management agency carried out the destruction of a batch of counterfeit goods with fake brands worth nearly 7 billion VND.
This is the result reported in the State Management Conference 2023 on Intellectual Property organized by National Office of Intellectual property of Vietnam (Ministry of Science and Technology) in collaboration with Hanoi People's Committee on March 29.
Specifically, according to the report of the National Office of Intellectual Property of Vietnam, in 2023, the whole country had 3,049 cases of industrial property rights infringement handled, an increase of 213% compared to 2022. The total amount of fines is more than 36.7 billion VND, an increase of 204% compared to the previous year. To support the rights enforcement process, the NOIP has provided 306 professional opinions to enforcement agencies, an increase of 40% compared to 2022.
One of the cases that attracted a lot of attention was the case of infringement of the "SAIGON BEER" trademark of Saigon Beer - Alcohol - Beverage Joint Stock Corporation (SABECO). In March 2023, the People's Court of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province fined defendant Le Dinh Trung, Director of Saigon Vietnam Beer Group Joint Stock Company, a fine of 700 million VND and the legal entity Saigon Beer Group Joint Stock Company, Vietnam fined 3 billion VND for infringing on SABECO's industrial property rights (trademark).
Although the IP industry has achieved achievements, it still faces new challenges. The number of industrial property infringement cases has increased due to online trading of fake and counterfeit goods. Improving the IP rights enforcement system is an urgent task, especially in the context of increasingly strict international commitments. |
