Sustainable agriculture and standardization issues
In recent years, Vietnam has exploited the advantages of agriculture, continued to develop, maintain growth and is shifting towards commodity production with increasing scale, productivity and quality, develop industries and products with competitive advantages. Agricultural, forestry and fishery exports are constantly growing, turning Vietnam into one of the agricultural powerhouses in the world.

In Vietnam, the concept of "Sustainable Agriculture" has been legalized in Decision No. 150/QD-TTg dated January 28, 2022 of the Prime Minister on approving the Agriculture and sustainable rural development strategy for the period of 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050. Accordingly, "sustainable agriculture" is agriculture that ensures development opportunities for future generations, adaptability and resilience fluctuations, balance and harmony of environmental, social and economic factors, regeneration of raw materials, energy, and etc. in production.

The technical standards for sustainable production mentioned in Decision No. 150/QD-TTg are good agricultural practices (VietGAP, GlobalGAP), ecological agriculture, organic agriculture, circular agriculture, and etc. including low carbon emission, environmentally friendly and climate change adaptive methods.

The connotation of sustainable agricultural production is also stated in Decision No. 324/QD-TTg dated March 2, 2020 of the Prime Minister on approving the Master Program for adaptive sustainable agricultural development with climate change in the Mekong Delta to 2030, with a vision to 2045.

The concept of "sustainable agriculture" is also mentioned in Goal No. 2 on ending hunger among the United Nations' sustainable development goals: "Eradicate hunger, ensure food security, and improve nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture.” In Vietnam, the Prime Minister issued the National Action Plan to implement the Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development (Decision No. 622/QD-TTg dated May 10, 2017).

In the coming years, it is necessary to continue to develop standards for traceability of agricultural products, standards for ecological and low-emission agricultural practices, in order to perfect Vietnam's national standards system for sustainable agriculture.
