Recently, in addition to promoting the development of typical products of localities across the country, businesses and cooperatives have focused on registering for protection and effectively managing intellectual property rights for specialty products. Thanks to that, the brand of OCOP products is maintained and developed, while approaching domestic consumers as well as promoting exports to international markets.
Dr. Dao Duc Huan - Head of OCOP Management and Rural Tourism Department, Central New Rural Coordination Office said that the OCOP Program has been widely deployed and has a strong spread in all 63/63 provinces and cities across the country. The program has confirmed its compatibility with Vietnam's agricultural development orientation. In particular, the program has awakened the potential and strengths of localities in terms of specialty products and rural industries.
Information from the National Office of Intellectual Property said that as of December 2023, there were 137 geographical indications protected in Vietnam, including 13 foreign geographical indications and 124 Vietnamese geographical indications. There have been 63/63 provinces and cities evaluating and classifying OCOP products. Accordingly, 11,056 OCOP products achieved 3 stars or higher (an increase of 2,189 products compared to December 2022). Of which 68.9% are 3-star products, 29.9% are 4-star products, and 1.2% are 5-star products.
Statistics also show that there are 5,724 entities producing and trading OCOP products, of which 37.5% are cooperatives, 24.4% are enterprises, 35.3% are production establishments/households, the rest are cooperative groups. In particular, statistics from 27 localities with official dispatches sent to the NOIP show that 978 products recognized with 4 stars have submitted applications for industrial property protection at the NOIP, of which 62% of products have been protected.
